Plugged expansion block or valve, or plugged accumulator on the suction side. Also could be bad valves in the compressor, or low on refrigerant charge. Any of the above can cause your trouble. Feel the lines with your hand while it is running and if there is an obvious temperature change on a line example hot to real cold or vice versa there is a good chance you have located the plug, because it is acting like an expansion point and is refrigerating at that point (not good) and all further refrigeration stops. lack of oil or a blocked filter cleaner. Mercury . 1981 V6 Camaro InformationThe 1981 Camaro was the last model year of the second-generation Chevrolet Camaros produced since 1970 under the umbrella of General Motors. The second-generation Camaro was aging badly by the time Chevrolet was ready to introduce the sportier third-generation models, and as a consequence, sales for this last model year were low. The 1981 Camaro was produced with several engines, including two V-6's. Origins The Chevrolet Camaro originally debuted in 1967 and instantly caught on as a muscle car, competing against the Ford Mustang, Dodge Charger, Chevrolet Chevelle and the Plymouth 'Cuda. The second-generation Camaros were introduced in early 1970, but never garnered the cult following of the first-generation models, primarily due to tough federal emissions standards that effectively gutted the Camaro's horsepower after 1972. Camaros were produced until 2002, and then returned with the 2010 models, according to Conceptcarz.com. New V-6 The 1981 Camaro was virtually identical in looks to the 1980 models. It also received the same 229-cubic-inch V-6 that was introduced in 1980 to replace the outdated 250-cubic-inch, in-line 6-cylinder engine. The gasoline shortages of 1973 and 1978 had a lingering impact on the 1981 Camaros; the car was underpowered when equipped with the V-6's. Limited engine options, an aging body style and the public's wait-and-see attitude towards the restyled 1982 Camaros diminished the 1981 model's sales. Features The 1981 V-6 Camaro marked some milestones. The once popular, but now slow-selling Rally Sport model was discontinued and did not return until 1989. Power brakes were now standard. Halogen headlamps made their debut along with the "Check Engine" light and the annoying space-saver spare tire. Options included power windows, removable glass roof panels, air conditioning, rear spoiler, AM-FM audio system with tape deck, special instrumentation panel, Rally Wheels, power antenna and aluminum wheels. Specifications The 1981 Camaro was placed on a 108-inch wheelbase and measured 197.6 inches long, 49.2 inches tall and 74.5 inches wide. The base coupe weighed 3,328 lbs., compared to the performance Z28 model that weighed 3,600 lbs. Under the Hood Two V-6 engines were offered: the 229-cubic-inch V-6 and the 231-cubic-inch V-6. The smaller V-6 generated 110 horsepower and 170 foot-pounds of torque--the twisting force the engine generates for acceleration. The 231 also offered 110 horsepower, but provided 190 foot-pounds of torque. This V-6 was the same engine used in GM's Buick cars. Chevy also offered 267, 305 and 350 V-8's. Power was transmitted through a 3-speed manual transmission or the Turbo Hydramatic automatic. Production A total of 52,004 V-6 Camaros were produced for the 1981 model year, compared to 74,135 V-8 versions for a total of 126,139 units. ResourcesMusclecarclub.com: More 1981 Camaro Details
Mercury . How to Identify a Turbo 350CHot rod enthusiasts can attest to the popularity of the Turbo 350 transmission. The TH350 (Turbo Hydromatic 350) was a transmission developed in a joint venture between Buick and Chevrolet in the late 1960s. This transmission was designed for small block 350 engines manufactured by Chevrolet. The Turbo 350 underwent few changes in the seventeen years it was manufactured. The most noticeable change, made during the early 1980s, is the addition of an electronically controlled lock-up torque converter. The addition of this technology improved highway driving speeds and made the transmission more efficient. This modification in the Turbo 350 transmission design is known as a Turbo 350C. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Car ramps Wheel blocks Drop light Mechanic's creeper Flash light Step by Step : 1 Drive the car onto the car ramps carefully. Turn off the engine and place the car in park. Set the emergency brake as a precaution. Place the wheel blocks behind and under the rear wheels. Hydraulic floor jacks and jack stands can be used in place of car ramps. 2 Turn on the drop light and position it through the engine compartment. The safest place to put a drop light is between the firewall and wheel well. The goal is to illuminate the area near the flywheel and torque converter on a Turbo 350C transmission. 3 Position the mechanic's creeper in front of the driver's side of the vehicle between the front wheels. Sit down and carefully slide backward until you reach the side of the transmission facing the driver door. This is the side opposite the transmission coolant lines. 4 Locate the bell housing on the 350C Turbo transmission. Directly behind the bell housing, on the driver's side, is the passing gear linkage. Next to the bracket that holds the linkage is a four-pronged electronic plug. This electronic plug is unique to the Turbo 350C transmission and is the only way to accurately identify this transmission from other 350 models. Tips & Warnings The Turbo 350C was manufactured between 1980 through 1986. If the car is "stock" (original) and has a 350 small block or V6 equivalent, chances are good that it came with a Turbo 350C. Do not be fooled by the shape of the transmission fluid pan. The fluid pan is typically changed to improve performance. If the Turbo 350C transmission is not in a vehicle, you can identify it by examining the input shaft. Turbo 350Cs have a hollow input shaft where the torque converter slips on. An "O" ring will be in a grove 1/4 of an inch back from the front of the shaft. Earlier model Turbo 350 transmissions had a solid input shaft. A Turbo 350 transmission can come with three different bolt patterns. The bolt pattern is not indicative of the transmission's originality. Disconnect the battery to ensure the vehicle cannot be started. Place the wheel blocks per the manufacturer's instructions. *Sometimes you can cure a problem — such as carbon-fouled plugs — by going to a hotter- or cooler-burning plug. You can identify these by the plug number. The higher the number, the hotter the plug. Never go more than one step hotter or cooler at a time. If your plugs indicate that something is seriously wrong with the way your engine is running, ask a professional mechanic for an opinion. If you're told that it requires extensive or expensive work, get a second opinion at another service facility without telling the technicians that you went to the first place. This is a good policy to follow whenever major repair work is suggested. We wisely get second opinions when doctors tell us we need major surgery; why not give your vehicle the same thorough attention before incurring a major expense? . Adjusting the distance between the two electrodes is called gapping your spark plugs. Gap new as well as old spark plugs, even if the package says that the new plugs are "pre-gapped." To avoid problems, work on only one plug at a time, in cylinder sequence order. The following steps explain how to gap your spark plugs: 1. If you're regapping a used plug, make sure that it's clean. If you're using a new plug, it should be clean and new-looking, with the tip of the side electrode centered over the center electrode. There should be no cracks or bubbles in the porcelain insulator, and the threads should be unbroken. 2. Take your feeler gauge, select the proper wire, and run it between the electrodes (see Figure 12-12). If the wire doesn't go through or if it goes through too easily, without touching the electrodes, you need to adjust the distance between the electrodes. Figure 12-12: Gapping a plug with a wire gauge. Mercury . What does the primary and secondary coil do on a car?
GMC Sierra (Classic) 1500 Extended Cab. * 3. Adjust the gap as necessary. If the wire didn't go through, the gap is too narrow. Hook the part of the feeler gauge that is used for bending electrodes under the side electrode and tug very gently to widen the gap. If the wire goes through too easily, without touching the electrodes, the gap is wide. Press the side electrode against a clean, mar-proof surface, very gently, until it's slightly bent down toward the center electrode. 00 A Part III: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System 4. Run the gauge through the gap again. 5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until the gap is just right. Mercury . How to clean chrome on the car?

If you keep getting the gap too narrow or too wide, don't feel bad. Everyone I know goes through the "too large-too small-too large" bit a couple of times for each plug, especially the perfectionists. After you're done gapping your spark plug, it's time to insert it in the engine. The next section has the details. Installing a spark ptuq To insert a spark plug into the engine, follow these steps: 1. Clean the spark plug hole in the cylinder block with a clean, lint-free cloth. Wipe away from the hole; don't shove any dirt into it. 2. Lightly coat the threads of the spark plug with anti-seize compound, being careful not to get any on the center or side electrodes. Mercury .
